When I was growing up there was a pair of false eyelashes in our bathroom cupboard that fascinated me. They were still in the package and had never been worn. A neighbour who sold cosmetics had given them to mom but they weren’t really mom’s thing.
Plus, she had already experienced one false eyelash incident and didn’t want to set herself up to repeat it…

Long before I was born, mom and dad were at a cocktail party and at least one woman in the group was wearing fake eyelashes. The woman was holding court as she chatted with mom and a few others. And, while she enthusiastically expounded on something or other, one of her eyelashes came off, drifted through the air like an oak leaf falling, and landed in mom’s glass.

I guess there are all sorts of ways to create memories when you’re at a party with friends.
One of the best ways I know is to bring home the recipe for something special that was served. That’s what I do, so flipping through my hand-written cookbook is a bit like going through a photo album.

This recipe for creamy ginger cashew dip is from my friend Linda who is one of the best dinner party hosts I know. It’s delicious with vegetables, grilled shrimp, or crackers.

  • 1/3 cup plain yogurt

  • Squeeze of lime (generous), or to taste
